Edna is a mixed media artist who loves experimenting with different mediums. She begins most paintings without a fixed destination, letting materials and discovery guide the work. She tries new methods and materials each time to learn how they enhance a painting. Abstract pieces are her laboratory, and what she has learned there strengthens her semi-realistic work. In this watercolor series, she has been translating techniques from acrylic into watercolor, and that shift has changed how she sees watercolor. Acrylic methods have taught her new ways to build texture, layer, color, and think about negative space. Those lessons have reshaped her watercolor approach and is why this series has been especially fun to paint.
